Freelance writers assist all sections in providing timely and quality news coverage that helps keep the Black community at this university informed. Applicants should be able to show proficiency with AP Style and demonstrate the ability to cover hard news (i.e. student and local government, university policy, crime, politics and protests), sports or culture topics. Freelance writers can be assigned to one of our 3 desks: news, sports or culture.

• Ability to use content produced as clip requirements for JOUR200, JOUR201, JOUR320 at the University of Maryland, College Park
• Develop clips that can be used for job applications and internships
• Gain valuable experience in covering a beat, developing sources, and experiencing a newsroom editing process
